Includes correspondence, notes, calculations, manuscripts relating to scientific research and writings on mathematics; correspondence with family members, publishers, Harvard departments, and with former students living in post-World War II Europe. Teaching material includes mathematics lectures and problems at Harvard and manuscript of 1952 lecture in Rome. Von Mises' writings contain both published and unpublished manuscripts written in German and English and related notes and correspondence. Also biographical material including diaries, 1903-1952, (in shorthand); photographs of von Mises and of conferences and meetings and glass slides used for lectures; diplomas and certificates; clippings and other printed items.
